Cooperation agreement between the GEDIA Automotive Group and Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH

Salzgitter / Attendorn The automotive supplier GEDIA Automotive Group and Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). In order to make the production of pressed body parts and welded assemblies more sustainable in the future, GEDIA will use CO2-reduced steel from the SALCOS® route in the manufacture of its products.

With the SALCOS® - Salzgitter Low CO2 Steelmaking transformation program, the Salzgitter Group is gradually converting its steel production to hydrogen-based processes. The aim is to achieve virtually CO2-free production from 2033 by replacing the traditional blast furnace route with production processes using direct reduction and electric arc furnaces. Salzgitter Flachstahl can already supply its customers with CO2-reduced steel via the so-called Peiner Route. The crude steel is produced there from scrap in an electric arc furnace and cast into slabs.

GEDIA is a long-standing partner of Salzgitter Flachstahl (SZFG). SZFG supplies the company, which has 9 locations worldwide, primarily with cold-rolled sheet and hot-dip galvanized steels for lightweight automotive body construction and chassis components.

Klaus Bierwirth, Chief Commercial Officer / Member of the Executive Board GEDIA: "We are delighted to have Salzgitter AG at our side as a competent partner who is just as committed to sustainability and a sense of responsibility as the GEDIA Automotive Group. By working together and signing the MOU, we will be able to take further steps towards CO2 neutrality and continuously reduce our ecological footprint."

Phillip Meiser, Sales Director Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH: "Our long-standing cooperation with GEDIA has been further strengthened with this MOU. With "green" steel from our SALCOS® range, GEDIA will soon be manufacturing the body parts of the future - sustainably and, above all, in an environmentally friendly manner."
